The Mental Capacity Act: Using a Co-Production Model

Half-day course

This workshop offers a refresher course on applying a Co-Production perspective to implementing the MCA by discussing four themes: Empowerment, Best Interest, Unwise Choice and Supported Decision Making.

Empowerment is a central theme of the MCA and does not always get enough emphasis. Using a co-production model and treating clients as experts by experience we can approach decision making in a more proactive and supportive way. This focus should improve supported decision making as opposed to substituted decision making.

Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS)

Half day course

From October 2020, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) will be changing to Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS). This course will provide an update on the changes under the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019.

DoLS Signatory Training

Half day course

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) must be approved by Signatories who sign the Safeguard on behalf of the Local Authority or CCG. This course examines the criteria for DoLS, the assessment process and the role of the signatory.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Update

Half day course

Short update course for those who already have knowledge of or use the Mental Capacity Act and DoLS. This is a refresher course which also covers recent cases or changes in practice.

Human Rights and Social Care

Full day course

This intensive course is led by a retired Judge and examines the key rights of the European Convention on Human Rights affecting the provision of social care in the United Kingdom.
